SPRING CLEANING

Spring is in the air! stock-photo-11497412-cleaning-fun

Along with spring, comes the annual spring cleaning that many of us naturally feel compelled to do.  This might involve cleaning and repairing antiques in the garage and installing them in the home or moving furniture from the house to another location to allow the cleaning of carpets and tiles.  Martha Stewart has a Spring Cleaning List that you might find helpful in accomplishing all of your tasks; however, the one thing not listed on there is acquiring the help of Day and Knight Moving.

Many people don’t realize that you can utilize our services to move furniture from upstairs to downstairs or vice-versa.  We often help you accomplish tasks such as clearing a room for a floor cleaner and then we return on a subsequent day to move the furniture back in on your clean flooring.  We have tools on our trucks to take apart beds and dismantle your washer and dryer to professionally move it to another part of the house.

You may have an off-site storage facility that you want to clean out and get rid of.  Many people these days are scaling down and streamlining what they own.

Whatever the case may be, we can facilitate your Spring Cleaning!  Just give us a call today and let’s see what we can do for you to help you accomplish your cleaning goals.

Don't bring bugs with you on your move!

When moving into a new home you want to make sure that you take everything with you that you need. One thing that you definitely don’t want or need to take with you are household pests. If you find yourself about to make a move, make sure that you keep the following things in mind before and after the move.

Avoid Cockroaches When Moving an Office or Home

Cockroaches are the nasty little buggers that will still be around long after all of the nuclear bombs wipe out humanity. The best way to avoid taking them with you is to keep from getting them in the first place. Of course, if you find yourself moving into a space that has them you need to take care of them. Use sprays and traps as well as keeping everything clean. One of the best ways to minimize the likelihood of having any roaches in your space is to ban all food from the workplace if possible.

Bees and Hornets

If you are moving an office and find yourself with wasps, hornets, or bees in the property you are best off working with a professional exterminator to rid yourself of them. They can build nests in the strangest places, and you can never be quite sure of how many there are. Avoid getting swarmed (and finding out that you are allergic) by working with a professional exterminator instead of handling this battle on your own.

Bed Bugs

It would be strange to find yourself moving an office and ending up with bed bugs, but stranger things have happened. This is one of the most difficult pests to eliminate, as their resistance to pesticides continues to catch up to any advances made by professional exterminators. You will probably need to combine the services of a professional with the disposal of any fabrics (including carpet and furniture) to get rid of them indefinitely.

Ants

You will find ants frequently when moving an office. While most species of ants are harmless you don’t want them hanging around. It can help to eliminate the consumption of food, but they may still be coming inside to find water. If you want to deal with them on your own purchase some traps and sprays and try to find their point of every. Put a fair amount of pesticide on and around this spot. If you can find the nest or ant hill you can also purchase pesticides that can be applied on and around it to eliminate the entire colony.

Fleas

One of the worst experiences we have heard of involved a person who was checking out new offices spaces. He ended up visiting a space that was infested with fleas and transferred them back to his office. They came with him until he moved. The best way to eliminate fleas is by keeping pets out of the equation, as they can’t survive with only human hosts. Remove any cats or dogs from the property until you are sure there are no more fleas and apply a few treatments to your pets before bringing them back.

Things are moving up!

It's interesting to note in these tough economical times that it appears more people are moving.  Usually the month of December is our slow period, however, the phone has been ringing!  This is good news for all of us in San Diego County.

Just remember if you have a specific date that you need to move, plan as far in advance as possible so that we may accommodate your needs.  We understand that it can be tricky if you are counting on a specific date for an escrow to close and we do our best to be flexible in changing your moving date if the bankers are slow at handling your paperwork.

We appreciate your business and look forward to 2012 and what bright changes will occur!

Thank you for your continued business.

PACKING A TRUCK

We are all in the same boat; trying to save money.  Many people call DAY AND KNIGHT MOVING about packing a truck.  This could be a commercial rental vehicle or maybe even your own personal trailer and/or truck.  We can provide you with the labor to professionally load your vehicle.

When renting your truck, inquire about disposable pads to cover your furniture and the rental of a hand-truck/dollies.  Often times if you are traveling a distance, it is best to leave large items like a refrigerator strapped to the dollie to facilitate the unload at the other end.
